Core Values, Standards & Beliefs

INDIVIDUAL WORTH: There is PRICELESS and SACRED value in every person, (even the unborn); this includes all personalities from all cultures, and races, no matter their talents/skills, or lack thereof. Further, God commands us through the Bible to LOVE EVERYONE, even our ENEMIES, and  to appreciate the eternal value of their souls.  However, just as God's Love is both merciful AND just, so  must ours be, holding people accountable/responsible for their wrong actions/behavior, (justice), while  giving them opportunity to repent and be forgiven, (mercy).

CULTURAL RELEVANCE: Mankind is called to keep serving within the present age. We should respect and build on the past without becoming its slave. Christians should be "culturally sensitive" for  the sake of reaching people for Christ, but not "cultural captives" in the sense of surrendering core  Biblical principles, values, beliefs and behaviors simply in order to be viewed as acceptable in the  world's eyes.  The world at large and Biblical truths have been at odds with each other from the  beginning.  To forsake central Bible truths, for any reason, is to both deny, and stand in the way of, God's intended best for humanity.

HUMAN NATURE:  Individuals by nature are prone to imperfection and predisposed to do the wrong  thing more often than not.  Each soul was given a "measure of faith" from the hand of God Himself.   This is the only goodness present in humankind, and originates with the Creator rather than from  within the creature (person) themselves. An individual can choose to either nurture and increase that  goodness by living according to God's will as revealed in the Bible, or forsake that goodness for the  darker nature within by ignoring the principles God has laid out plainly in His Word.

LIVING RIGHT:  Jesus Christ is the defining feature of God's will for all humankind. In Christ is found  the highest and most practical meaning, and clearest example, for holy living or godliness. Christ is  both our example and our strength and we, as individuals, must pursue that integrity, excellence, faith,  hope and love. (We, with the Holy Spirit's help, CAN and SHOULD live a life victorious over purposeful  wrong-doing, by turning away from it and living a life of goodness.  We are to be the expression of  God's divine LOVE, through His Son, Jesus Christ, and can only accomplish that by setting aside  selfishness and depending totally on the Holy Spirit to give us the strength we need to overcome our  bent toward wrong.)  This does not mean that we are perfect or that we will not have temptations to overcome, but we should strive to do the right thing.  If we deliberately sin, we must be sorry for it, repent of it, and make honest effort not to engage in it again.  Humanly speaking - an impossible task, but if we will depend on God's Spirit, it can be attainable.

SALVATION:  Although in a broad sense every human is a "child of God", Jesus was the ONLY true  Son, Fathered by God Himself through the power of the Holy Spirit, and born of a virgin, Mary.  This  means that Jesus was born both fully human and fully Divine.  He was the only person who NEVER  did anything wrong, and as such was the only individual who could ever truly bring us eternal  forgiveness, or "salvation from our sins" and the penalty of death those sins required.  He was  crucified on the cross, was buried, and was brought back to life by God on the third day.  His death  was both the symbolic and literal representation of our deserved penalty for wrong-doing, and His  resurrection is the cancellation of that penalty; the pardoning of our souls.  He was victorious on our  behalf. This means that all mankind is provided the opportunity for salvation from eternal death, (not a  "forced" destiny), and given the opportunity to receive life that lasts forever.  This is not based on ANY work that we have done, or could ever do, ourselves.  Even the smallest wrong makes us unworthy of eternal life, but the good news is that Jesus has done that work for us.  All an individual must do to obtain this gift is accept it by faith, believing and confessing that Christ is their only true Hope, and to truly repent (turn away) from their sinful nature and actions. Unfortunately, not all people want to take the free gift He is offering, choosing to live for the temporary rather than the eternal.  As a  consequence of their own choice in the matter, according to scripture, they will not be granted the free  gift of eternal life at the final judgement of God. In other words, God is a gentleman and He will not force you to befriend Him.

LIFE AFTER DEATH:  Heaven and hell are both literal and eternal places.  Heaven is simply the place  that God has designed for us to spend with Him forever.  It is indescribably and unimaginably  beautiful.  Hell is simply the place that God designed for the devil, (who is a very real and evil entity),  and his demons to spend in eternal punishment.  Hell was NOT designed for human souls, as  scripture plainly teaches.  God is loving and does not want anyone to go there.  However, He does not  force what He wants on people, (if He did the whole world would be immediately peaceful and loving!)   Instead, He has set your eternal destiny up on a system where YOU, the individual, decide where you  want to spend your after-life.  Now, if left to our own devices, no one would ever choose God, His ways,  or His gift of eternal life...but He gave everyone "a measure of faith", and it is that measure that  allows us the freedom to choose or reject Him and His plan when He presents opportunities through  the gentle tugging of the Holy Spirit on our hearts. No one will be able to blame God when they find  themselves in hell.  It is entirely an individual's decision to go there.

BIBLICAL AUTHORITY: The Bible is the highest source of written authority regarding God's plan for His  people; it reveals how to live out that plan, individually and corporately. Beliefs, practices and priorities  are to be anchored in clear Biblical teachings. Additionally, the Bible is infallible, without mistake,  and the very inspired Word of God Himself.  Any seeming contradiction can be resolved by  reading/studying the passage within historical, cultural, and spiritual context.

ACCOUNTABILITY:  The Bible teaches that we are to be accountable for our actions.  Although we  can not be humanly perfect, we can strive towards spiritual perfection with, (and ONLY with), the help  of God's Holy Spirit.  If we should sin, God will forgive us, but we must be sorry for it and take  deliberate, practical steps to turn away from the wrong doing, NOT continually practice it.  Those who  continue to live consistently within their wrong doing, who think its "okay", holding it in a casual  attitude, feeling no remorse and making no effort to change, are not truly Christian.  If they were, they  would actively strive to be obedient to God's Word, not regard it as of no consequence - for they would recognize that Christ's death was a direct result of sin, both personal and universal, and they would want to honor Him with their obedience instead.
Further, we  are to be accountable to our fellow humans and societal law, when we offend them, whether  intentionally or unintentionally.  We must do all we can to make restitution for any wrong that we have  done; that means both apologizing AND actively doing all that we can to at least partially make it up to  them.  God's grace, although fully forgiving of the soul, does not nullify our obligation to take  responsibility for our behaviors.  It is true that God does eternally erase our sins when we repent, but  we still must live with the consequences those sins have brought about in our lives, including paying  our societal and relational debts.

SERVICE:  Once a person commits to the Christian way of life, they must make regular effort to be of  service to those in need by way of their time, talent and resources, and to do this with the intention of  exemplifying Christ's love in action to those around them.
